A 3 week jewellery course exploring the fundamentals of chain-making including batch making, piercing, forming, batch soldering, clasps and polishing. We aim to complete a chain-link silver bracelet during the course. The bracelet will be to your own design and length (as a guide, usually around 18 cm) you can choose the profile and gauge of your wire and the shape of your links.  Supportive small group learning. Use of tools and consumables are included. PLEASE NOTE SILVER COSTS ARE NOT INCLUDED FOR THIS COURSE. Approx silver cost £30 - £50 depending on wire gauge, wire profile, your design and length of chain.

  • Timings: either mornings: 10:00am-12:30pm or evenings: 18:00-20.30
  • All tools and consumables included
  • Silver costs are additional (as a guide between £30 to £50)
  • Maximum 5 participants —  friendly and supportive, small-group setting
  • The studio is fully equipped, with each of the 5 individual workbenches having the tools necessary for each task and with additional larger working areas.
  • Suitable for complete beginners, you will be given guidance all the way through from initial design to making and finishing.
  • Your tutor Rachael is an established maker and illustrator with a PGCert in Creative Education and has taught in a University setting for over 25 years, specialising in 3D Art & Design including contemporary craft and jewellery. 
  • Once you have enrolled you will be sent the initial course guidance including step by step ‘how tos’ for the project

Where: Form and Findings Studio is Studio 4, in the Stables at Coda Music & Arts Trust. There is easy parking on site with disabled spaces and access if required.

Refreshments: The onsite Bramble Hill cafe is open again from September Monday- Friday 9-4. The studio will provide refreshments during the session.

 

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring and what should I wear?

Please wear close toed shoes. Please wear clothes that you are happy to get dirty (aprons are provided) and that aren’t too loose or flammable. Please have something to tie your hair back if necessary. Please bring your glasses if you use them: I have spares though just in case!

What time shall I arrive?

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the session so that we can start on time

Is there on site parking and disabled parking?

Yes there is ample parking on site, including disabled parking.

Is there a cafe?

The on site Bramble Hill cafe is open 09.00 to 16.00 Monday to Friday to purchase drinks and food. The studio will provide tea and coffee during breaks.
